Ambient click is an ambient light sensor carrying the Melexis MLX75035 IC. This chip consists of a photodiode, a transimpendance amplifier, and an output transistor. It converts the ambient light intensity into a voltage, using the mikroBUS AN pin for communicating with the target board microcontroller.

AMBIENT Click Board

AMBIENT Click Board

Library Description

The library covers all the necessary functions to control the Ambient click board. Ambient click communicates with the target board via analog ( AN ) pin. This library contains drivers for reading ADC value of  Melexis MLX75305 IC on Ambient click board.

Key functions:

  • uint16_t ambient_calculateLightIntensity( uint16_t adcData, uint16_t vccVal, uint16_t adcRes ) - Calculate light intensity function.

Examples description

The application is composed of three sections:

  • System Initialization - Initializes GPIO and LOG structures, sets AN pin as input and starts write log.
  • Application Initialization -  Initialization driver enables GPIO, initializationADC, also write log.
  • Application Task - (code snippet) This is an example which demonstrates the use of AmbientClick board. Ambient Click reads ADC value and converts to light intensity [ uW/cm2 ].  Results are being sent to the Usart Terminal where you can track their changes.  All data logs on usb uart change for every 1 sec.
void applicationTask()
{
    valueADC = ambient_readADC();
    light = ambient_calculateLightIntensity( valueADC, _AMBIENT_VCC_3_3, _AMBIENT_RES_12_BIT );
    Delay_100ms();

    WordToStr( valueADC, logText );
    mikrobus_logWrite( " ADC value: ", _LOG_TEXT );
    mikrobus_logWrite( logText, _LOG_LINE );

    WordToStr( light, logText );
    mikrobus_logWrite( " Light Intensity:", _LOG_TEXT );
    mikrobus_logWrite( logText, _LOG_TEXT );
    mikrobus_logWrite( " uW/cm2 ", _LOG_LINE );
    mikrobus_logWrite( "-------------------", _LOG_LINE );
    Delay_1sec();
}

Additional Functions :

  • void ambient_adcInit() - Function ADC initialization.
  • uint32_t ambient_readADC() - Function read ADC value.

Other mikroE Libraries used in the example:

  • ADC
  • UART
  • Conversion

Additional notes and informations

Depending on the development board you are using, you may need USB UART clickUSB UART 2 click or RS232 click to connect to your PC, for development systems with no UART to USB interface available on the board. The terminal available in all MikroElektronika compilers, or any other terminal application of your choice, can be used to read the message

9DOF 3 Click introduces the BMX055, a small-scale absolute orientation sensor in the class of low-noise 9-axis measurement units, from Bosch Sensortec. It comprises the full functionality of a triaxial, low-g acceleration sensor, a triaxial angular rate sensor and a triaxial geomagnetic sensor. All three sensor components of the BMX055 can be operated and addressed independently from each other. On top, the BMX055 integrates a multitude of features that facilitate its use especially in the area of motion detection applications, such as device orientation measurement, gaming, HMI or menu browser control. 9DOF 3 Click offers both SPI and I2C digital interfaces for easy and fast system integration.
